AARP was not current on the PeopleTools and PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) Image versions due to the lack of time and resources overhead involved in PeopleSoft testing,

  • AARP was on PeopleTools 8.56 and PUM Image #18
  • Cost of Testing was huge as the testing was manual and had lengthy testing cycles
  • Limited Resources for execution of lengthy test cycles
  • Management of Test Scripts using spreadsheets and Test results using word documents
  • Tracking of the Test Results and Issues were manual and real time test metrics was not available

AARP was on FSCM 9.2 (Financials and Supply Chain Management) PeopleTools 8.56, but they had not implemented PeopleSoft Test Framework due to resource and time constraints.

The modules in scope for Test Automation included Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivables, Billing, General Ledger, eProcurement, Purchasing, Project Costing, Contracts, Travel and Expenses, Asset Management Financial Gateway.

The Solution:

AARP chose Astute’s FasTest PeopleSoft test automation tools to automate functional regression testing of PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain. Using FasTest, Astute quickly addressed AARP testing needs and implemented a fully automated test regression suite that helped AARP during the testing for PUM Image #26 Update, PeopleTools 8.57 Upgrade, current 8.59.15 Transition, Move to AWS Cloud. The tailored solution included:

1. PTF JumpStart implementation - to get AARP up and running with Test Automation that includes key business processes. Astute developed 50+ end-to-end business scenarios with over 600 automated tests
 
2. Managed Services for complete Test Automation and Test Management - Ongoing Run, Build and Maintenance of AARP’s test scripts and test cycles.

    Automate manual testing using PeopleSoft Test Framework

    Implementation of Astute’s Test Automation solution FasTest to address the limitations of delivered PTF features, and thus enhancing the user experience

    Key deliverables include:

    • Implementation Project Plan
    • Design Document for the PTF Shell Tests
    • Unit Test Results of 50 PTF Shell scripts with 600 automated tests
    • Best Practices document for PTF
    • Installation of FasTest
    • PTF and FasTest Training

    2. Managed Services for complete Test Automation and Test Management

    Extend the coverage of the current automated test library as per requirement.

    Assist AARP in setup, execution, tracking and monitoring of test execution using FasTest and PTF for a given test cycle.

    Maintain the most updated & current automated PTF test library by performing impact analysis, retrofits etc.

    Provide support & maintenance of the automated test library using PTF and FasTest tools by providing new updates and releases as per AARP’s PeopleSoft application and Tools version.

    Key deliverables include:

    • Retrofit PTF Tests and Shell Tests during PUM Image Updates, major enhancements, and new implementations.
    • Maintain an updated and current copy of the automated test library in PTF.
    • Execution of Test Cycles - Report the test execution results using FasTest, Log, Track and Manage defects during the execution of test cycles using FasTest

    With the PTF JumpStart implementation and Astute’s Manage Services for the Testing over the last 6 years, AARP has realized business benefits across a number of categories:

    • Reduction in the Cost of Time and Efforts by 70% with the automation of a large part of the testing process – 12 test cycles were run after the PUM upgrade - TST and QAT each in about three weeks.
    • Automated Test scripts made the testing process more efficient, consistent and repeatable process. AARP has used the automated PTF scripts multiple times over the last 6 years – PUM Image #43 Update, PeopleTools 8.59.15 Upgrade, three new business unit implementations, move to AWS Cloud
    • With FasTest, AARP has access to real time test metrics to track the progress of the test cycles

    Technology

    Currently AARP is on PeopleTools 8.59.15 and PUM Image #43. They are planning to upgrade to latest Tools and PUM Image soon.

    • With the upgraded tools, AARP would have access to updated automated test scripts that would be used during the future upgrades and implementations
    • AARP would also have access to latest version of Fastest that gets updated with the Tools Upgrades. So they would have access to real time test metrics on Fluid Dashboards and Reports
